Voices from the Frontlines:
Community-Drive Pathways for Systems Change in Aotearoa

In 2023 the group released their (not-)white paper offering five pathways towards more positive and impactful systems change.

On August 4th, Canada’s The Tamarack Institute held a webinar with our co-lead Anjum Rahman and SASS group’s Anissa Ljanta to discuss ‘Five Community-Driven Pathways for Systems Change’.

The webinar is based around Voices From the Frontlines: Community-Driven Pathways for Systems Change in Aotearoa, as report released from the Systems-change Advocacy Support and Solidarity (SASS) group back in May.

Systems Change is by definition transformational, but relationship-led innovative approaches are neither quick nor easy and can be a daunting prospect without reliable support structures in place. So how do we amplify Systems Change for a more equitable future that is Te Tiriti-based, connected and community-designed?

For our final Learning Lunch, Pathway #5: Encourage Experimentation and Amplify Transformation, our guest speakers Malu Malo-Fuiava (Belong Aotearoa), Red Nicholson (The D*List), and Erin Matariki Carr (We Are River) will join Lautalie Schmidt-Geen and dig into experiences, methods, and the potential for experimentation and transformation across systems change work.

2024 September’s topic was Addressing Racism, Bias, and Exclusion, which is the third of the five pathways outlined in the SASS non-white paper Voices from the Frontlines: Community-driven Pathways for Systems Change in Aotearoa. 

Systemically or explicitly, we observe ignorance, bias, racism and exclusion on a daily basis - in the news, our workplaces, organisations, institutions and sometimes even in ourselves or those close to us. Dr Arama Rata (Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga - NPM), Bianca Johanson (Manaaki Rangatahi) and Faumuina F. Maria (Ifopo) Tafuna'i (Flying Geese) will join Anjum Rahman to share their whakaaro on the systemic processes and impacts of these issues in our communities and wider society.

2024 August’s topic was Strengthening Relationships and Working Together, the second of the five pathways outlined in the SASS non-white paper Voices from the Frontlines: Community-driven Pathways for Systems Change in Aotearoa. 

Dr Christina Howard, Ashleigh Summerville, and Eva Chen (MNZM) will join Lautalie Schmidt-Geen to share experiences of collaboration and offer advice on creating, sustaining, and strengthening relationships across sectors.
